Key West: Tarpon at Dawn, Bones on the Flats, Sharks on the Tide

Hey guys, this is Captain Ryan Carter here giving you the weekly inshore fishing report down in Key West, Florida. The waters around Key West continue to provide exceptional fishing opportunities for anglers joining our fishing charter adventures.

The tarpon fishing for migrational fish is reaching its end, but don’t worry – the local schools of tarpon are still very much active and providing great fishing experiences for our Key West fishing charter guests. With water temperatures soaring in July, I highly recommend booking your fishing charter for sunrise and sunset trips when these silver kings are most active and the bite is at its most productive. A live pinfish remains your best bet for targeting these acrobatic fish during your Key West fishing charter. There’s nothing quite like the thrill of hooking into a jumping tarpon in the backcountry waters surrounding Key West.

Once the tarpon bite dies down, fishing the flats for bonefish becomes an excellent plan for our Key West fishing charter clients. We’re currently seeing high numbers of bones cruising the shallows right now, making for exciting sight-fishing opportunities. These ghost-like fish provide a technical challenge that keeps anglers coming back to Key West for more fishing charter experiences.

The mangrove snapper spawn is on in full swing out on the reef, weather permitting. Our Key West fishing charter trips to the offshore waters have been producing excellent results when conditions allow us to get out there safely. However, the snappers inshore are starting to show back up for those Key West fishing charter guests who just want a few fresh fish for dinner.

Sharks have been very productive on outgoing tides along the south side of the islands. These exciting gamefish add an extra element of adventure to any Key West fishing charter, especially for anglers looking to test their tackle against some serious pulling power.

The fishing around Key West remains excellent despite the summer heat. Whether you’re targeting tarpon at dawn, stalking bonefish on the flats, or battling sharks in the afternoon, there’s never been a better time to book your Key West fishing charter experience.

Tight lines,
Captain Ryan Carter
