Key West Inshore & Backcountry Fishing Report

Greetings from paradise!

The inshore and backcountry waters around Key West have been absolutely on fire lately! If you’re thinking about getting on the water, now’s the time — the action has been nonstop.

Tarpon are still hanging around in good numbers, especially early in the morning and late afternoon. We’re finding plenty of willing fish cruising the channels and laid up in the basins. Live bait and artificial presentations are both getting the job done. These silver kings are putting on aerial shows that never get old.

Jack Crevalle have also made their presence known, smashing bait schools with that explosive aggression they’re known for. These bruisers are a blast on light tackle and make for some serious rod-bending fun.

Over the structure and mangroves, Mangrove Snapper fishing has been excellent. Fishing can be easy with live pilchards and cut bait. These tasty fish are a staple of our Key West fishing charters, and they’ve been keeping the restaurants busy with catch and cook!

If you’re looking for something that pulls a little harder, shark fishing has been red hot. Blacktips, lemons, and bulls are prowling the flats and channels. We’ve had multiple hookups per trip with some real bruisers — a perfect option for thrill-seekers or anyone looking for a memorable fight.

Whether you’re a seasoned angler or new to the sport, this is a perfect time to book a Key West charter fishing trip. The weather’s stable, the fish are chewing, and the scenery is unbeatable.

Tight lines,

Capt. Ryan Carter
