Key West Inshore Winter Fishing Report

Hey guys, Captain Ryan Carter here with your weekly inshore fishing report from Key West, Florida.

These recent cold fronts have pushed jack crevalle inshore in the largest numbers I’ve seen in the past few years. They’ve been stacked up around shallow structure throughout the Lower Keys, and you can also sight-fish them in the Gulf by looking for large groups of birds diving on baitfish.

Jack crevalle are hands down one of the most aggressive fish in the ocean, making them an incredibly hard-fighting species. When you find them feeding on bait schools on the surface, you can throw almost anything and they’ll eat it.

Topwater lures, like a Badonk-A-Donk, are perfect right now and give you a front-row seat to just how explosive and aggressive these fish really are.
